Was Homeland Security Behind Attack on 9/11 Investigative Journalist Bollyn?

The “undercover tactical unit” involved in the assault and TASERing of a 9/11 investigative journalist at his Chicago-area home was most likely an operation ordered by the Department of Homeland Security, according to a former high-ranking police official.

Since the bizarre and brutal attack against me by three heavily-armed agents at my family home in Hoffman Estates , Illinois , a number of people have commented on the seemingly odd use of an “undercover tactical unit” to respond to a non-emergency 911 call.

Some of the most insightful comments have come from a former senior police official from Illinois , who spoke to a source close to AFP. The former police chief was familiar with the details of the incident when he made his comments.

The former police chief said the deployment of an armed tactical unit wearing body-armor on a “gang suppression” exercise in a neighborhood in which there are no gangs or history of gang activity was itself “highly unusual.” (more…)

“the commission was charged with explaining not only what happened, but also why it happened. In looking into the background of the hijackers, the staff found that religious orthodoxy was not a common denominator since some of the members “reportedly even consumed alcohol and abused drugs.” Others engaged in casual sex. Instead, hatred of American foreign policy in the Middle East seemed to be the key factor. Speaking to the F.B.I. agents who investigated the attacks, Hamilton asked: “You’ve looked [at] and examined the lives of these people as closely as anybody. . . . What have you found out about why these men did what they did? What motivated them to do it?”

These questions fell to Supervisory Special Agent James Fitzgerald. “I believe they feel a sense of outrage against the United States,” he said. “They identify with the Palestinian problem, they identify with people who oppose repressive regimes and I believe they tend to focus their anger on the United States.” As if to reinforce the point, the commission discovered that the original plan for 9/11 envisioned an even larger attack. Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, the strategist of the 9/11 plot, “was going to fly the final plane, land it and make ‘a speech denouncing U.S. policies in the Middle East,’” Kean and Hamilton say, quoting a staff statement. And they continue: “Lee felt that there had to be an acknowledgment that a settlement of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict was vital to America’s long-term relationship with the Islamic world, and that the presence of American forces in the Middle East was a major motivating factor in Al Qaeda’s actions.” (more…)

The World Loves a Hero and Despises a Coward

Just hours after the news of the Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin’s death, people all over the world were lamenting the loss of this brave man, who was able to tackle crocodiles and handle poisonous snakes with amazing ease. Steve Irwin was not reckless. His father was an expert at handling poisonous snakes, and Steve inherited his dad’s quick reflexes and learned the trade. During his long career, Steve Irwin was never bitten by a poisonous snake.

Irwin was most famous for tackling good-sized alligators. This was another talent, he learned from his father who worked for the Australian government. Irwin was so comfortable around crocodiles that he even took his baby boy with him one time when he was feeding a croc. A crocodile can’t lunge forward with any great speed while on land and Irwin’s baby was in no real danger, but Irwin was repeatedly criticized for that one incident.

Pentagon to Congress: Bush is Wrong the War is Lost

The Pentagon’s latest quarterly “progress” report to Congress on Iraq is a grim tale of a lost war. The Pentagon told Congress what Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, and propaganda organs such as Fox “News” never tell the American public, namely:

(1) The Sunni-based insurgency remains “potent and viable” despite spiraling Sunni-Shiite violence and beefed up US forces.

(2) Since the last report three months ago, Iraqi casualties from “sectarian clashes”–the Pentagon’s euphemism for civil war–have soared by more than 50 percent.

(3) From May when the new Iraqi government was established until August, the average number of weekly attacks increased sharply to 800.

(4) Since the previous report, Iraqi daily casualties have jumped by 50 per cent from 80 per day to 120 per day. Currently, Iraqis are dying at the rate of 43,800 per year from violence.

The Iraqi government cowers behind the fortified walls of the “Green Zone.” On August 31, the Kurds in the north took down the Iraqi flag and replaced it with the Kurdish one. Most of Iraq is ruled by Shiite and Sunni militias. Conflict between them has forced 160,000 Iraqis to flee their homes.

Pat Buchanan: Well nobody was paying attention but it wasn’t simply the lights being shut off, there is a drive toward globalism. A drive to do away with sovereignty and the independence of nations. A drive basically to merge all nations into basically one giant conglomerate like the European Union over which the bureaucrats, like the bureaucrats of Brussels run the European Union - these bureaucrats would run the world.

Now people say well Pat you are just being paranoid, well no I’m not. This idea is out of the closet. In America the idea, the weigh station toward World Government and toward this World Union of peoples and nations - as it’s been called - is the North American Community or the North American Union that Vicente Fox has outlined in speeches in Europe. He said “my problem is the American people has this idea of sovereignty and independence which we can’t get by - you people in Europe have gone a long way.” And indeed they have, they have given up their sovereignty and independence to bureaucrats - some of the great nations - ancient nations of Europe - the British for example who have fought for THOUSANDS of years for their Independence are GIVING IT UP!

Once again David Duke is ahead of the curve

Since his political race for the U.S. Senate in the 90s, I have noted the controversial politics of David Duke, a former member of the House of Representatives in Louisiana. He is a man the media chronically labels a “white supremacist.” (Though he vehemently denies it). I also used that label in an article I wrote about him 15 years ago.

Though a fascinating personality, he is not a man I am inclined to invite for tea. But, I read his website originally for a diversion much like one would go to a horror movie, yet I have been shocked not by his radicalism, but as a result of looking at his writings and speeches retrospectively. For good or ill, Duke has been a sort of unwashed prophet on some of the biggest issues of the day.

Take for instance:

Duke politically coined the term “Workfare instead of Welfare,” a term that describes a requirement requiring able-bodied welfare recipients to do work for their welfare checks.

Bill Clinton later copied Duke’s phrase to bridge the gap between Liberal Democrats and enough conservative Republican voters and gain the U.S. Presidency.

Duke argued as long ago as the early seventies, (long before the immigration tsunami) that massive, unrestrictive immigration into America and Europe would inevitably lead to societal unrest, riots and increased racism and ethnic hatreds, and threats to internal security.

Witness the horrendous riots in East London and Paris. Witness the purveyors of 911. Witness the recent airline bombing plot by the radical spawns of immigration.

But even more interesting have been his pronouncements on Israel and U.S. Policy. (more…)

EVER WONDER what it’s like to be a pariah?

Publish something sharply critical of Israeli government policies and you’ll find out. If you’re lucky, you’ll merely discover that you’ve been uninvited to some dinner parties. If you’re less lucky, you’ll be the subject of an all-out attack by neoconservative pundits and accused of rabid anti-Semitism.

This, at least, is what happened to Ken Roth. Roth — whose father fled Nazi Germany — is executive director of Human Rights Watch, America’s largest and most respected human rights organization. (Disclosure: I have worked in the past as a paid consultant for the group.) In July, after the Israeli offensive in Lebanon began, Human Rights Watch did the same thing it has done in Iraq, Afghanistan, Chechnya, Bosnia, East Timor, Sierra Leone, Congo, Uganda and countless other conflict zones around the globe: It sent researchers to monitor the conflict and report on any abuses committed by either side.

It found plenty. On July 18, Human Rights Watch condemned Hezbollah rocket strikes on civilian areas within Israel, calling the strikes “serious violations of international humanitarian law and probable war crimes.” So far, so good. You can’t lose when you criticize a terrorist organization.

But Roth and Human Rights Watch didn’t stop there. As the conflict’s death toll spiraled — with most of the casualties Lebanese civilians — Human Rights Watch also criticized Israel for indiscriminate attacks on civilians. Roth noted that the Israeli military appeared to be “treating southern Lebanon as a free-fire zone,” and he observed that the failure to take appropriate measures to distinguish between civilians and combatants constitutes a war crime. Why this Immigrant Rights March is Brought to You by Miller

Marchers had to duck into fast-food restaurants for water when they first took to Chicago’s streets in support of illegal immigrants five months ago. At the next two marches, family-owned grocery stores offered free bottled water from trucks emblazoned with their names.

This time, as demonstrators march from Chinatown to House Speaker Dennis Hastert’s (R-Ill.) Batavia office this weekend, they will have Miller Brewing Co., as a sponsor. The brewer has paid more than $30,000 for a planning convention, materials and newspaper ads publicizing the event.

The support of a major corporation for a controversial political cause shows how fierce the competition has become to woo the growing market of Latino consumers.

For Miller, the march offered a special chance to catch up. This spring the brewer drew the ire of pro-immigrant forces over contributions to U.S. Rep. James Sensenbrenner (R-Wis.), who sponsored legislation that would crack down on illegal immigrants. That prompted a short-lived boycott by some Latino groups.

Now, march advertisements feature not just the organizing committee’s trademark blue globe but Miller’s logo and a Spanish translation of its “Live Responsibly” slogan, a company effort to build goodwill among Latinos.

But this march is no Cinco de Mayo parade. The politically charged event will promote a controversial plan to end deportations and offer legal status for all 11 million to 12 million undocumented immigrants. That creates potential pitfalls for any businesses lending support, experts say. (….Full Article)

Fascists Under the Bed

“President Likens Dewey to Hitler as Fascist Tool.”

So ran the New York Times headline, Oct. 26, 1948, after what Dewey biographer Richard Norton Smith called a “particularly vitriolic attack in Chicago” by Harry Truman.

What brings this to mind is President Bush’s assertion that we are “at war with Islamic fascism” and “Islamofascism.”

After the transatlantic bomb plot was smashed, Bush said the plotters “try to spread their jihadist message—a message I call, it’s totalitarian in nature—Islamic radicalism, Islamic fascism, they try to spread it as well by taking the attack to those of us who love freedom.”

What is wrong with the term Islamofascism?

First, there is no consensus as to what “fascism” even means. Orwell said when someone calls Smith a fascist, what he means is, “I hate Smith. ” By calling Smith a fascist, you force Smith to deny he’s a sympathizer of Hitler and Mussolini. (….Full Article)
