Serious. Cold. Stunning. Walt and Mearsheimer Arrive in Hard Covers

Some time in the next few days the website israellobbybook.com will be activated–right now it’s a blank–and The Israel Lobby and U.S. Foreign Policy, by John J. Mearsheimer and Stephen M. Walt, will be published by FSG. This is a historic book. The authors’ London Review of Books paper last year created an intellectual sensation I’ve never witnessed, and notwithstanding the desire of the lobby that the book disappear, I imagine the splash this time will be mainstream. Walt and Mearsheimer will be on television. That likelihood is increased by David Remnick’s flat assertion, in an advance piece on the book that generally threw water on the scholars, that they are right to say that the lobby bears responsibility for the Iraq war.

I’ve been reading the book this August and have three preliminary impressions: Serious, cold and stunning. The seriousness of the book is conveyed on every page. The arguments are calm and earnest, stripped of metaphor and coyness. These are mature men engaged in every sinew with a giant squid of an issue; and their 106 pages of endnotes are overwhelming, and give the lie to anyone who accuses these scholars of “shoddy scholarship.”

Cold. The authors are conservative realists at heart. They see states as amoral and a little vicious, and they don’t overheat their arguments. There is no joy in the book, and the fervor is hidden beneath mountains of cold logic. They are reserved, and tactical. They refuse to really take on the dual-loyalty problem (just as Tony Judt refused in his speech at NYU last year) but you sense that they believe it’s a problem (as I do). They generally say that the lobby has every right to do what it does, but their underlying zeal comes out–I think, admirably–when they state that the suppression of free speech on this issue is inappropriate and undemocratic. David Remnick’s anger at the authors–he accuses them of wanting Israel to disappear– seems to me a response to that zeal, and though he misdescribes it, the reader can feel the great molten energy underneath the icy words. New Arizona law chases illegals out
‘I would say we are losing at least 100 people a day’

A new Arizona state law to require employers to verify the immigration status of employees is being blamed – and credited – for chasing illegal aliens out of the state.

It’s the second such development in just the last week: WND reported earlier how a new Oklahoma law requiring the deportation of arrested illegal aliens was prompting an exodus from that state.

The developments are the result of state actions already launched when a brokered plan in the U.S. Senate to create a path to legal residency for the millions of illegal aliens in the country collapsed.

The new report comes from the Arizona Republic, which said the state’s strong economy has been a magnet for illegal aliens for years, but the law is looming on Jan. 1.

“I would say we are losing at least 100 people a day,” Elias Bermudez, founder of Immigrants Without Borders and host of a daily talk-radio program aimed at undocumented immigrants, told the newspaper.

The report said it’s impossible to count exactly how many illegal aliens have fled because of the new law, but interviews with immigrant advocates, community workers and real-estate agents confirm the number is significant.

“Some are moving to other states, where they think they will have an easier time getting jobs,” the report said. “Others are returning to Mexico, selling their effects and putting their houses on the market.”

The report said the number is expected to mushroom as the deadline approaches.

Jewish Leaders Caught In Iran Bind
As Walt-Mearscheimer book appears, efforts to keep military option open run counter to national mood

Even as they fight revived charges that Israel and the pro-Israel community are beating the drums for war with Iran, Jewish leaders here are quietly trying to protect President George W. Bush’s ability to use military force to knock out that country’s nuclear weapons program if diplomatic efforts fail.

But they are running headlong into a national mood of skepticism and distrust about American foreign policy in general — and a surge of opposition to any new U.S. military involvements in particular.

Talking even indirectly about the war option is risky because “there is virtually no public support for an attack on Iran,” said University of Virginia political scientist Larry Sabato.

And a leading Jewish military analyst warned that Jewish leaders are playing with fire by talking about the military option without understanding its difficulties or dangers.

“Flirting with the military option without understanding its meaning is very dangerous,” said Shoshana Bryen, special projects director for the Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs (JINSA). “I don’t think Jewish leaders are pushing the administration to war, but by not understanding the consequences, they are not making themselves look good; they open themselves up to a lot of criticism by being glib about going to war.”

Bryen, whose group has strong ties to U.S. and Israeli military leaders, said there are no simple, clean military options for dealing with the Iranian threat, and that almost any U.S. attack would prompt massive retaliation against Israel.

Jewish leaders “say they don’t want to remove the military option, but when asked how we should exercise it, the answer is usually ‘uhhhh,’” she said. “That really weakens their case.”

Bryen said she agrees with most Jewish leaders that “the military option should never be taken off the table. But I would be very careful about how I throw it around out in public.”

In the 19th and 20th centuries, America became a powerhouse that delivered living standards, levels of personal freedom and class mobility that made it the envy of the world. As developments in the European homeland were not analogous, the unparalleled prosperity of the United States cannot be explained on an ethnic basis alone. The main difference was ideological. The ideas and conditions that gave America the crucial edge continue in many forms to this very day, and can be seen in rates of ownership of real property that aren’t even approached anyplace else in the world.

Thomas Jefferson laid the foundation that would separate the United States from Europe, and create the greatest nation the world has ever seen with his often-misunderstood words in the Declaration of Independence that “all men are created equal.” His true intent was given life in the U.S. Constitution, in Article I, Sections 9 and 10 in which both the United States and the Several States were expressly prohibited from granting titles of nobility; and in Article III, Section 3 in which Attainders of Treason are specifically prohibited from working Corruption of Blood.

The importance of these matters to our Founding Fathers can be seen in the fact that they were included in the Constitution itself, rather than in the subsequently ratified Bill of Rights. They didn’t want to entrust it to the amendment process. And the amendment process was a risk. Today, we think of the first ten amendments to the  Constitution as a monolithic article containing only ten amendments. But what most Americans don’t realize is that the Bill of Rights, as sent to the States for ratification, actually contained twelve amendments, two of which weren’t ratified at the time.

Torture In Israeli Prisons

Today, more than 8,000 Palestinians are locked in Israel ’s prisons, most without due process. For the majority, their crime is resisting a nation that violently stole 90 percent of their parents’ and grandparents’ land and possessions and expelled them to wretched detention camps in Gaza, the West Bank, and Lebanon. (See, The Simple Explanation for Mid-East Strife) These sons and grandsons were imprisoned for crimes ranging from stone-throwing at Israeli tanks to violent terrorist activity. As prisoners, they have virtually no rights. Many are held without charge or trial.  They can be legally tortured without restraint. 

Since at least 1967, the government of Israel has vehemently denied that it uses torture, and Israel signed the 1987 Landau Agreement banning most forms of torture. ¹ But in 1995 a secret government report (not released until 2000) admitted Israel does torture. ² In 1999 Israel ’s Supreme Court ruled that torture can be employed as a “necessity” in exceptional cases when officers have reason to believe they can prevent a crime. This has created a loophole, exempting interrogators/torturers from punishment as long as they claim they tortured in the national interest. ³

Since every Palestinian prisoner may be viewed as possessing information valuable to preventing terrorist attacks, virtually all have been tortured. The Palestine Monitor (www.palestinemonitor.org) reports that since 1987 the Israeli Security Agency has tortured at least 850 Palestinians a year during interrogations. Since the Supreme Court ruling in 1999, according to the Israeli human rights organization B’Tselm, 85 percent of Palestinian prisoners are still subjected to torture. The Monitor asserts that during the first Intifada (1987-1993), Israeli security “interrogated approximately 23,000 Palestinians.” The Public Committee Against Torture (PCAT) estimates that almost all suffered some torture during interrogation. ⁴

My Struggle

My life will be judged worthwhile to the extent that it is of use to others. For this reason, I wish to tell of the things which have happened to me in my struggle against the forces of darkness. It is my hope that others will be forewarned of what to expect in this fight. During the past thirty years of this struggle, many of the great patriots who gave me, instinctively, their valuable guidance and inspiration, were themselves, heavily immobilized by the machinations of the international Jewish power. Yet, they always continued their work as much as possible. To the end of their lives, they never swerved from the responsibility which had been laid on them by their knowledge of the truth. Each of the patriots who guided me, among them, Ezra Pound, Col. Eugene Sanctuary, George Sylvester Viereck and Mrs. Lyrl Clark Van Hyning, had been born with natural gifts. Throughout their lives, they used these gifts for the benefit of others. Very few Americans know of the persecution which these patriots endured throughout their lives. Yet, during the years I knew them and worked with them, this persecution was mentioned, if at all, only in passing and without regret. They considered their personal losses unimportant compared to the sufferings of the Gentile people who have been enslaved by the Jews. Similarly, it might seem idle carping for me to mention the murder of my parents by government agents as stroked of the Jews revenge against me for my work, when we consider that sixty-six million Christians have been killed in Russian concentration camps since 1917, murdered by the Jewish Communists who built and operated these camps. These millions lie nameless and unmourned. But they were no less and no more, the victims of the Jews than my parents and many other Americans whose sacrifices have gone unrecorded and unheeded by those who are next on the lists. No one who has been martyred by the Jews should remain unknown. And no one who has been martyred by the Jews will remain unavenged.

I became the object of the Jews hatred by events which moved in a straight line. Successively, I became the protégé of George Stimpson, the most respected journalist in Washington, who founded the National Press, Ezra Pound, the world most famous poet, and H. L. Hunt, the worlds richest man. Of the three, only Ezra Pound fought the Jews openly. And he suffered grievously, spending thirteen years in a hideous urine soaked madhouse in Washington D.C. George Stimpson passed on to me many of the secrets of Washington, including the fact that Felix Frankfurter founded the Harold Ware Cell of Communists and the nature of the Jewish control over J. Edgar Hoover and the FBI. H.L. Hunt fought valiantly to preserve the values of Christian civilization. But was unable to deploy his money effectively in a battle which was outside of his experience. Neocons One Step Closer to Attacking Iran

As should be expected, the neocons have shifted from one preposterous lie to another in order to prepare the way for eventually inflicting mass murder, mayhem, and misery on the people of Iran.

“In an effort to build congressional and Pentagon support for military options against Iran, the Bush administration has shifted from its earlier strategy of building a case based on an alleged Iranian nuclear weapons program to one invoking improvised explosive devices (IEDs) purportedly manufactured in Iran that are killing US soldiers in Iraq,” writes Larisa Alexandrovna of Raw Story. “According to officials—including two former Central Intelligence Agency case officers with experience in the Middle East—the administration believes that by focusing on the alleged ties between IEDs and Iran, they can link the Iranian government directly to attacks on US forces in Iraq.”

Call it aluminum tubes redux. No doubt, in two or three years, after Iran suffers the horrific fate of Iraq, there will once again be rumblings in the media that the Iran IED accusations were not only baseless, but yet another primary example of the duplicitous nature of the neocons. Recall, as well, that the last time around the CIA argued that 100,000 high-strength aluminum tubes Iraq allegedly attempted to purchase demonstrated Saddam Hussein was feverishly and methodically working toward the objective of nuking grade school kids in Pocatello, Idaho. Of course, it did not matter at the time that technical experts from the Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge, Livermore, and Los Alamos National Laboratories, as well as the International Atomic Energy Agency, found this claim ludicrous.

Indeed, the entire “case” against Saddam Hussein was fixed around the “policy,” that is to say the neocon plan to mass murder extraordinary numbers of helpless and enfeebled Iraqis, emerging from the barbarity of more than a decade of medieval sanctions, a regime that cost over a million lives—more than 500,000 of them children—well “worth it,” as Clinton’s former secretary of state, Madeleine Albright, infamously averred.

In Germany they’ll throw you in prison for nominating the wrong person for a Nobel Peace Prize

Wow, isn’t Germany the epitome of a modern democracy? Earlier this year German courts condemned Ernst Zundel for calling Israel “a place of refuge for world gansterism.” Can you imagine? Personally I thought that was a well known fact, I guess not, at least in the German court system. Scrutinize the very first sentence of this Reuters article carefully and replace the name “Adolf Hitler,” with any other name you can think of. Go ahead and try it, hell put Judas Iscariot’s name in there if you like, or Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, whatever. Can’t you see how damn silly it is? Can’t you? The German government has no shame whatsoever, it is led by neo-Bolsheviks ruling under the guise of a modern democracy. German police charge far-right leader over remarks on Nazi Rudolf Hess

German police have charged the leader of a far-right political party with inciting racial hatred after he recommended Adolf Hitler’s former deputy for the Nobel peace prize.

Police in the eastern city of Jena said on Friday they had filed the charge against Udo Voigt, head of the National Democratic Party (NPD), after he proposed the late Rudolf Hess for the prestigious award during a speech last weekend.

If convicted of incitement, Voigt could face a jail term of up to three years or a fine, police said.

Voigt made the comment in Jena last Saturday as he marked the 20th anniversary of the death of Hess.

Focus Attention on Zionist Crimes Against Humanity by Suing Israel and Jewish Bankers

Make this struggle for self preservation an economic and political battle, instead of a physical fight. Drain the economic resources of World Jewry and expose their inhuman crimes and then World Jewry will no longer have the ability to drag the human race into another World War of their manufacture.

Instead of fighting one another in a war, both Armenia and Turkey should sue the Jewish bankers, and Israel which has profited from the crimes of the Jewish bankers, for the destruction of the Turkish Empire and Turkish culture, religion and self-rule, and for the genocide of the Armenian People.

This will end the march towards war which World Jewry is ginning up between Armenians and Turks by pitting them against one another. The mere act of filing such suits at law will focus the attention of the World public on Jewish crimes against the human race, and discourage further such acts of violence and subversion.

Pro-War Organization Hides Its Pro-Israel Agenda

Last night Ari Fleischer was on Hardball speaking up for Freedom’s Watch, a new organization that is buying ads to support George Bush’s war “plans” in Iraq. Fleischer warns that if we don’t stay the course, the whole region will “explode.”

According to the Washington Post, two of the three leaders of Freedom’s Watch, including Fleischer, are associated with the Republican Jewish Coalition (the third is involved with the Holocaust Memorial). Its donors, per the Post, include three other members of the Republican Jewish Coalition and Gary Erlbaum, a leader of the conservative Jewish community in Philadelphia. That’s a lot of right wing Jews.

I talked to Erlbaum a year ago. Israel is front and center for him. Three years ago I heard Fleischer talking to a Jewish audience in Cincinnati, urging them to vote for George Bush in the upcoming election. Fleischer made explicit pro-Israel appeals. He said that his mother was a Democrat who opposed Bush but had softened because the Iraq war had been good for Israel’s security. He said that he was proud of the fact that in all his statements on Israel/Palestine while White House press secretary, he had never used the term “cycle of violence.” I.e., he masked the endless brutalization there, as if Israel is getting somewhere by bulldozing houses and performing messy assassinations that kill little children, too.

“More War on the Horizon”

Israel is a “peace-seeking state” that needs $30 billion of US taxpayers’ money for war, declares State Department official Nicholas Burns.

The Democratic Congress, if not fully behind the Iraqi war, at least no longer is in the way of it.

Nor are the Democrats in the way of the Bush regime’s build up for initiating war with Iran.

The Bush regime says it is going to designate part of Iran’s military – the Revolutionary Guards – a terrorist organization, whose bases and facilities Bush intends to bomb along with Iran’s nuclear energy sites. Three US aircraft carrier strike forces are deployed off Iran. B-2 Stealth Bombers are being fitted to carry 30,000 pound “bunker-buster” bombs to use against hardened sites. Politicized US generals assert that Iran is providing arms and aid to the Iraqi resistance to the US occupation. The media is feeding the US population the same propaganda about nonexistent Iranian weapons of mass destruction that they fed us about nonexistent Iraqi weapons of mass destruction. A former CIA Middle East field officer, Robert Baer, has written in Time magazine that the Bush regime has decided to attack the Revolutionary Guards within the next 6 months. Remember the “cakewalk war”? Well, this time the neocons think that an attack on the Revolutionary Guards will free Iran from Islamic influence and cause Iranians to back the US against their own government.

Lies, unprovoked aggression, and delusional expectations – the same ingredients that produced the Iraq catastrophe – all over again. The entire Bush regime and both political parties are complicit, along with the media and US allies.
