Professor Norman Finkelstein says his dismissal from a major US university was presaged by his willingness to speak the truth about the influence of pro-Israel groups on policies coming out of Washington

‘Ihave no regrets,” says Norman Finkelstein, after losing one of the most divisive and publicised campus battles in US history.

Despite student demonstrations and sit-ins, protests from some of the world’s most prominent academics and an outcry from free speech groups, Finkelstein was dismissed from DePaul University, the US’ largest Catholic university. The firing generated headlines around the world with many claiming it was an effort to gag his criticisms of the Israel lobby and Israel’s human rights record in Palestine.

One of the most well-known and outspoken commentators on Israeli policy, Finkelstein is the author of five noted books on the Israel-Palestine issue and is a popular speaker on the subject.

Finkelstein accuses the lobby of using the Holocaust to stifle debate on Israel and to embezzle funds earmarked for Holocaust victims. Much of Finkelstein’s research on Israel relies on mainstream human rights organisations, which he says universally condemn Israel for torture, illegal imprisonment and intentionally killing civilians.

Many suspect that his dismissal is part of a national house-cleaning against critics of Israel and the pro-Israel lobby. The alleged campaign has seen numerous academics fired or demoted, and high-profile speeches at US universities cancelled following pressure from pro-Israel groups.

Even mainstream activists like Archbishop Desmond Tutu, who was key in bringing down South Africa’s apartheid regime, have incurred the wrath of the lobby for criticising Israel.

According to Finkelstein, the furor over the Israel issue has everything to do with the lobby.

“There is nothing unusual about the Israel/Palestine issue, apart from the fact that there is a lobby here that prevents any kind of rational debate,” he said in a phone interview.

Israel still a hotbed of human trafficking

Marina rarely leaves her two-room home in northern Israel these days.

She is in hiding - wanted by the Israeli authorities for being an illegal immigrant, and by the criminal gangs who brought her here to sell her into prostitution.

Marina - not her real name - was lured to Israel by human traffickers.

During the height of the phenomenon, from the beginning of the 1990s to the early years of 2000, an estimated 3,000 women a year were brought to Israel on the false promise of jobs and a better way of life.

“When I was in the Ukraine, I had a difficult life,” said Marina, who came to Israel in 1999 at the age of 33 after answering a newspaper advertisement offering the opportunity to study abroad.

“I was taken to an apartment in Ashkelon, and other women there told me I was now in prostitution. I became hysterical, but a guy starting hitting me and then others there raped me.

“I was then taken to a place where they sold me - just sold me!” she said, recalling how she was locked in a windowless basement for a month, drank water from a toilet and was deprived of food.

That part of her ordeal only ended when she managed to escape, but the physical and mental scars remain.

Last year, the United Nations named Israel as one of the main destinations in the world for trafficked women; it has also consistently appeared as an offender in the annual US State Department’s Trafficking in Persons (Tip) report.

While this year’s report said Israel was making “significant efforts” to eliminate trafficking, it said it still does not “fully comply with the minimum standards” to do so.

Like Marina, some trafficked women are brought into the country legally, while others are smuggled by Bedouins across the border from Egypt.

In all cases, the traffickers - as many as 20 in the chain from recruitment to sale - take away the women’s passports before selling them on to pimps.

Sometimes the women are subjected to degrading human auctions, where they are stripped, examined and sold for $8,000-$10,000. (…Full Article)

Time to hear an apology for the Great Terror in the Soviet Union

This seems to be historic guilt month. Germany just opened a new memorial to Jewish victims of Nazi persecution. Armenians demand Turkey admit Ottoman-era massacres were genocide. Japan is being blasted anew for denying wartime atrocities.

Yet the greatest crime in modern history, and bloodiest genocide, have almost vanished from our collective memory. Last week marked the 70th anniversary of the Great Terror in the Soviet Union in which tens of millions were murdered or imprisoned.

Russia’s president, Vladimir Putin, at least commemorated for the first time what he termed “colossal” Soviet crimes by attending a memorial this week for its victims.

It was interesting watching Putin, former head of the FSB security service, denouncing crimes of its direct predecessors, KGB and NKVD. The same Putin who recently called the Soviet Union’s collapse a “tragedy.” Still, we applaud his long-overdue recognition of Communist-era crimes.

The Soviet terror began in the 1920s when Lenin ordered the extermination of Cossacks and opponents of the Bolsheviks. Next came Catholics of White Russia, and resisters to communism in the Baltic states and Moldova. Stalin then ordered liquidation of two million small farmers, known as “Kulaks.”

In 1932-33, Stalin unleashed genocide against Ukraine’s independent-minded farmers.

Six to seven million Ukrainians were shot or purposely starved to death. The man who directed this genocide, Lazar Kaganovich was made Hero of the Soviet Union and died in Moscow in 1991. (more…)

Is a Vote for Rudy a Vote for War?

Rudy Giuliani has made a “promise” not to allow Iran to acquire a nuclear capability, even if it requires U.S. military action. Though the U.S. Army is scrimping to meet recruitment goals, Rudy has pledged to add at least 10 new combat brigades.

Speaking to an Atlantic Bridge conference in London, Rudy called for NATO expansion to include Japan, India, Australia, Singapore and Israel. Has Rudy thought this through?

Why would Japan and Australia, each of which already has a U.S. commitment to come to its defense, commit to go to war with a nuclear-armed Russia if it invaded Estonia? For joining NATO would require them to treat an attack on Estonia, or any other NATO nation in Europe, as an attack upon themselves.

Why should the United States commit to war for India, which has territorial conflicts and has fought wars with China and Pakistan? What vital interest is it of ours who holds Kashmir? As for Israel, are American boys now to fight Hezbollah and Hamas?

While FDR talked to Stalin, Ike and JFK to Khrushchev, and Nixon to Mao, Rudy would not talk to any “enemies bent on our destruction or those who cannot deliver on their agreements.” Would he be even-handed in the Israeli-Palestinian dispute? Answers Rudy, “America shouldn’t be even-handed in dealing with … an elected democracy … and a group of terrorists.”

If Rudy rivals McCain as the hawk’s hawk in the Republican race, the foreign policy advisers he has signed up make the Vulcans of Bush look like Howard Zinn and Ramsey Clark. Arnaud de Borchgrave titled his column about them “Dogs of War.”

Team leader is Charles Hill, a co-signer of the Sept. 20, 2001, neocon ultimatum to Bush, nine days after 9/11, warning the president if he did not attack Iraq, his failure to do so “will constitute an early and perhaps decisive surrender to the war on international terrorism.”

Yet Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11.

A second member of Rudy’s team is Martin Kramer, an Israeli-American who, according to Ken Silverstein of Harper’s, “spent 25 years at Tel Aviv University and whose Middle East policy can best be summarized as, ‘What’s Best for Israel?’” Silverstein calls Rudy’s eight-man advisory group “AIPAC’s Dream Team” – AIPAC being the Israeli lobby, two of whose leaders go on trial in January for espionage against the United States.

According to the New York Times, another key Rudy adviser is Daniel Pipes, “who has called for profiling Muslims at airports and scrutinizing American Muslims in law enforcement, the military and the diplomatic corps.” Another is AEI’s Michael Rubin, “who has written in favor of revoking the United States’ ban on assassinations.”

Zion-power and War: From Iraq to Iran

Explanations for the US attack on Iraq range from military-political pretexts to accounts focusing on geopolitical and economic interests.

The original official explanation was the now discredited claim that Saddam Hussein possessed chemical, biological and other weapons of mass destructions (WMD), which threatened the US, Israel and the Middle East. Subsequent to the US military occupation, when no WMD were discovered, Washington justified the invasion and occupation by citing the removal of a dictator and the establishment of a prosperous democracy in the Arab world. The imposition of a colonial puppet regime, propped up by an imperial occupation force of over 200,000 troops and irregular death squads, which have killed close to a million Iraqi civilians, forced over 4 million into exile and impoverished over 95% of the population, puts the lie to that line of argument. The latest line of justification revolves around the notion that the US occupation is necessary to ‘prevent a civil war’. Most Iraqis and military experts think the presence of the US colonial occupation army is the cause of violent conflict, particularly the US military’s devastating attacks on civilians, their financing of rival tribal leaders and Kurdish mercenaries and their contracting of local police-military to repress the population. Since most Americans (not to speak of the rest of the world) are not convinced by these specious arguments, the Washington regime rationalizes its continued war and occupation by citing the need for a colonial military victory to maintain its world and regional status as a super-power, and to assure its Middle East client regimes that Washington can defend their ruling cliques and their hegemonic ally, Israel. The Bush White House and pro-Israel Congressional leaders claim a victory in Iraq will bolster Washington’s image as a successful global ‘anti-terrorist’ (anti-insurgent) regime. These post-facto justifications have lost credibility as the war drags on, popular resistance grows in Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine, Lebanon, Somalia, Thailand, Philippines, Pakistan and elsewhere. The longer the war continues, the greater the economic cost and the demoralization and depletion of military personnel, the more difficult the task of sustaining the capacity to intervene in defense of the empire.

If the official political and military justifications for the US colonial wars in Iraq and Afghanistan ring hollow and convince few, what of the other economic explanations for the war put forth mostly but not exclusively by critics of the Bush administration? (more…)

Jewish Extremist Torture Advocate is now the U.S. Attorney General 

A radical Jewish supremacist and advocate of torture, Michael Mukasey has been confirmed by the U.S. Senate as America’s new Attorney General.

When asked by the Senate committee if he would permit “waterboarding”, or the terrorizing of accused suspects by partially drowning them, Mukasey stated that he is “not sure” if such treatment is torture. ????

The American Justice system led by Mukasey is now is completely in line with the Jewish Bolsheviks who ran the biggest torture and killing apparatus in the history of the world, Soviet Communism. He also is in line with the long-standing torture policies of Israel. NY Times writer, Alan Greenberg, conservatively estimates that Israel tortures 6,000 Palestinians a year.

Mukasey has also been very instrumental in the cover up of Israeli involvement in 911 and the of Israeli Mossad agents who were caught filming and cheering the 911 attacks as they occured.  Mukasey, along with Jewish extremist, Michael Chertoff, permitted dozens of Israeli spies captured in the wake of 911 who were shown to have been shadowing the hijackers — to go back to Israel outside the reach of Congressional investigation.

Mukasey’s clear endorsement of torture caused a significant number of senators to vote against his confirmation. What put Mukasey over the top in the Senate was the support of supposedly liberal Jews such as Schumer and Feinstein. In the end, Jews can frequently be counted on to support their fellows no matter what the circumstances.

It is amazing that in a society that tells us repeatedly that everyone is an individual and you shouldn’t necessarily support your own race or group, Jews routinely put their group loyalty above everything else, but no public figrues have the guts to expose this obvious fact. it is easy for radical Jews to dominate a society when powerful extremist Jews in government, media and finance support each other and the Jewish agenda (such as the catastrophic Iraq War)  while everyone else is divided and compromised.

The appointment of a torture advocate, Jewish extremist as the chief law enforcement officer of the United States has to be a new low for America. We have radical, extremist Jews as head of the Justice Department, Department of Homeland Security, Federal Reserve, World Bank, and controlling the President of the United States as if he were a puppet on a string.

Spain Abolishes Thought Crime Law - Withdraws from Germany’s Holocaust Persecution Alliance

Below report from El Mundo, Madrid, 8-11-2007, p. 3 (translated from Spanish):

Freedom of Expression cannot be denied even to the Nazis

The first sentence given in Spain for the crime of genocide apology will also be the last. Moreover, it will be revoked. The Constitutional Tribunal decided yesterday to decriminalise a presumption that was included in the reform of the Penal Code of 1996. Article 607.2 anticipates punishments of up to two years in jail for whoever, “by any means” diffuses “ideas or doctrines that deny or justify” the Holocaust.

With that legislation, a Barcelona court [Juzgado Penal Nº 3, Judge Santiago Vidal] sentenced a librarian [Pedro Varela] in this city in 1998 who distributed and commercialised pro Nazi books and videos. Against the prosecution’s criteria, the Catalonian Court of Appeal [Audiencia Provincial, three judges] posed the question of unconstitutionality, when considering that the referenced article limits a fundamental right, the right to freedom of expression, since it punishes the diffusion of ideas “without demanding any other element, such as affronts, or inciting to attack groups.”

We are, undoubtedly, before a correct decision of the Constitutional Court that reinforces our system of guarantees. Because, no matter how odious the ideas that justify genocide may appear to us, a free society cannot deny their right of freedom of expression, unless it includes inciting to violence. The opposite would be to reinstate the crime of opinion.

War of the Open Letters

Michael Medved recently wrote a smarmy, self-righteous open letter to Ron Paul. Medved dishonestly implies that because some people in radical politics support Paul, that this is some major issue that must be addressed now.

Medved doesn’t talk about Log Cabin (Gay) Republican support of Rudy Giuliani. Nor does he talk about the murky collection of neocons, whom he and Rudy freely associate with, who are responsible for an illegal war of aggression, legalizing torture and a long list of crimes, which should send them all to prison if the law were still enforced equally and considered relevant in modern America.

Curiously, Medved lumps in people who question 911 with the pro-White community and Holocaust revisionists. According to Medved, the tortured confessions obtained at Nuremberg are the last word on the Holocaust, never mind the impossibly high number of claimed Jewish casualties or any of the other evidence to come out about the Holocaust in the last 62 years. And Medved doesn’t want us scratching away the whitewash coating on the 911 incident. Or asking which Middle East nation knew about 911 in advance and had the most to gain from it.

The Two Galileos of the Modern Age Tell the Truth about Race - by Dr. David Duke

Until recently, Dr. James Watson, the co-winner of the Nobel Prize for discovering the structure of DNA and the man most responsible for the monumental Human Genome Project, was the most revered scientist in the entire world. No longer. His own world famous Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory suspended him and forced him to retire, universities and museums have canceled his lectures, and a chorus of media and public voices now call him the most opprobrious term in modern times: “racist.”

What was his great crime? He simply uttered a few words about the undeniable scientific fact that there are IQ differences among races, as dangerous a thing to do today as saying the Earth is not the center of the universe in Galileo’s time.

Dr. Watson has echoed the other leading scientific giant of the modern age, Dr. William Shockley, in daring to speak truth about what amounts to the 21st Century equivalent to the Middle Age’s heresy: that important racial differences exist. Both of them did not in any way advocate discrimination or suppression of any race or people. Like modern day Galileos they simply wrote and spoke the simple truth and then paid a great price for their scientific honesty.

If one had to pick the greatest scientific achievements of the last 100 years, it would be easy to name the two at the very top: the development of the transistor (and its progeny the silicon chip and the resulting computer age) and the discovery of the structure of the building block of all life, the DNA Double Helix. Giuliani Endorsed by Pat Robertson

In a completely bizarre move, Pat Robertson has endorsed Rudy Giuliani for president. Giuliani is famous for supporting Gay marriage and abortion. Giuliani has also been married three times and has occasionally appeared in public dressed in drag.

Pat Robertson is the head of the Christian Coalition, a loose collection of protestant cliques, some of which are obsessed with the notion of being raptured before the battle of Armageddon. Robertson has just made the “mother of all moral compromises” by jumping on Giuliani’s bandwagon. Will his followers hold their nose and vote for Giuliani or will this endorsement fall on deaf ears?

Giuliani is supported by the neocons and the Israeli Lobby. He is totally willing to use the US military to wage war on any nation that Israel is the slightest bit paranoid about. A Giuliani victory in 2008 would be a guarantee of a war on Iran for the sake of Israel.

Pat Robertson raised a few eyebrows not long ago when he suggested that the President of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez, should be assassinated. His latest deal with Giuliani should wake up anyone with an open mind to the fact that there is something seriously wrong with Pat Robertson. (more…)

Homo Americanus: Tom Sunic’s Tour De Force of A Treatise

One of the best authors I have discovered recently would have to be Dr. Tomislav Sunic. Who is Tom Sunic and why do I praise his writing? Allow me to quote from his book jacket as an introduction to this heavyweight in the intellectual sparring match for our heritage and freedom:

I have just begun delving into this very essential volume on the follies of both postmodernist thought, which in many aspects is quintessentially American, and the myths that give Americanism its appealing varnish-like gloss, yet hide the bankruptcy of its egalitarian suppositions and aid in the exportation of its worst excesses. U.S. Takes More Steps Toward War With Iran

The White House is feverishly trying to condition the public to accept an invasion of Iran as part of “the war on terrorism.” Have You Had Your Fill of Criminal War-Mongering?

There’s no doubt but that the American public has had a bellyful of senseless , no-win, aggressive war. At last count, American troops are in 135 countries around the world—over 100,000 of them. There are thousands of mercenaries but the actual figure is classified.

Why? We are told that our people are there to bring “democracy” to the unenlightened. Although our country is in serious need of some of this wonderful political elixir, seeing that the administration’s policies have never been submitted to the people or even to Congress, the charade goes on. It’s a shame, but nevertheless a fact that “democracy” is distinguished by its absence in our present environment of pressure groups, lobbies and charlatans.

It is common knowledge that only about 30% of the public thinks the Bush-Cheney administration and Congress are doing their jobs.

Of course, we all know that they are doing a great job—for themselves, that is. Not for the people, the taxpayers, the cannon-fodder but for the military-industrial-banker complex.

Wars and rumors of wars are extremely profitable for the real rulers of this country and the media that support them. (more…)

Ron Paul Raises $4.3 Million in One Day

Ron Paul just raised 4.3 million dollars in one day. Ron Paul has just outperformed every single Republican competitor with this one day fund drive. What’s even more extraodinary is the fact that these are ordinary Americans giving a little more than $100 each on average. Whenever Giuliani or Romney has a big fund-raiser, it invariably involves the country club elite giving $2,300 checks. The great thing for Ron Paul is that his army of supporters can give another $100 in another fund drive while Giuliani and Romney have “maxed out” the donations from their rich, country club friends.

This fund-raiser comes on the heels of a very important poll. The London Daily Telegraph reports “(A Pew Research) Poll gives Hillary Clinton (a) big lead over Giuliani. …a new poll… places her ahead of Rudy Giuliani in the event of a presidential contest between the two. The survey, conducted by the respected Pew Research Centre, is one of the largest taken during the campaign, involving 2,000 prospective voters. It placed the former first lady eight percentage points ahead of the Republican former New York mayor - by a margin of 51 per cent to 43 per cent.”

What this means is that Republicans desperately need to re-think who is the best man to beat Hillary in 2008. They can’t afford to back an Open Borders candidate like Giuliani or Romney or Huckabee. They can’t afford the Iraq War “albatross” around their necks as they head for the election. Only one Republican candidate is taking a populist stand on bringing our troops home and opposing Amnesty, and that man is Ron Paul.

Update: Ron Paul “Money Bomb” Breaks $2 Million Barrier

Expectations are being exceeded by the grassroots effort culminating in today’s “money bomb” of donations to the Ron Paul campaign. Shortly after 2 PM Eastern Time, the campaign reached the $2 million mark with nearly half the day remaining.

Some visitors to this website earlier today predicted that the $3 million mark might be topped today. That possibility is becoming more and more likely. Of course, in order for it to be reached, the pace of donations will have to continue at the same rate throughout the day.

After some solid donation strength in the wee hours of the morning, the pace really picked up at 8 AM Eastern Time as this graph shows [see SF-thread]. Since that time, the donations have proceeded at an extremely steady pace. Between 8 AM and 2 PM the graph shows an almost straight line going up at a roughly 60° angle. If that pace holds for another six hours, Paul’s army of contributors could easily sweep through the $3 million barrier and be knocking on the door of $4 million.

It is becoming increasingly likely that the major media will be taking notice. Already the Washington Times and the National Ledger have posted articles showing they are watching the pace of contributions. The former is simply reporting it as straight news (albeit minor news from their point of view), preferring to withhold comment until the primaries. On the other hand, the National Ledger is attempting to debunk the whole thing, saying that it doesn’t matter how much money Paul raises because his message won’t play with the voters.
