We’ve finalized arrangements for Stormfront’s Renaissance Man, Derek Black (Theodoric) to broadcast a twice weekly program on our local West Palm Beach radio station WPBR 1340AM. The programs can also be heard through the station’s audio/video webstream.

Derek became a local celebrity after media coverage of his election to the Republican Executive Committee, with REC chairman Sid Dinerstein then decreeing elections don’t count and voters don’t matter, if he and his fellow commissars don’t like the result. We have since prepared a lawsuit, which his attorney expects to win.

Derek formerly hosted four one-hour weekly shows on Stormfront Radio, so he has experience. This is a broadcast news/talk radio station, however, with a significant local audience.

Derek’s working hard to make the first show memorable, with several prominent guests. He will also be accepting call-ins from listeners at (561) 533-6134. ‘If Netanyahu has jolted Joe and others out of their romantic reveries about Israel, good. At least now we no longer see as through a glass darkly’

Actually, Joe set himself up. From the moment he set foot on Israeli soil, our vice president was in full pander mode.

First, he headed to Yad Vashem memorial, where he put on a yarmulke and declared Israel “a central bolt in our existence.”

“For world Jewry,” Joe went on, presumably including 5 million Americans, “Israel is the heart. … Israel is the light. … Israel is the hope.”

Meeting Shimon Peres the next day, Joe confessed that when he first visited at age 29, “Israel captured my heart.”

In Peres’ guestbook, he wrote, “The bond between our two nations has been and remains unshakeable.”

He then told Peres and the world, “There is absolutely no space between the United States and Israel when it comes to Israel’s security.”

As Peres spoke, Biden took notes. When Peres called him “a friend,” Joe gushed, “It’s good to be home.”

Even at AIPAC, they must have been gagging.

Walking around the corner to Prime Minister Netanyahu’s office, Joe called him by his nickname, “Bibi,” declared him a “real” friend and said the U.S. relationship with Israel “has been and will continue to be the centerpiece of our policy.”

Then the sandbag hit.

Interior Minister Eli Yishai announced construction of 1,600 new apartment units in Arab East Jerusalem. Stunned and humiliated, Biden issued a statement saying he “condemned” the decision.

He then retaliated by coming late to dinner at Bibi’s house.

Netanyahu has apologized for the timing, but they are going ahead with the apartments. What are the Americans going to do about it? At this point, nothing but bluster.

Indeed, a day later, at Tel Aviv University, Joe was back at it: “(T)he U.S. has no better friend … than Israel.”

On his departure for Jordan, Ha’aretz reported that Israel plans to build 50,000 new homes in East Jerusalem over the next few years.

Biden may feel he was played for a fool, and Americans may feel jilted, but we got what grovelers deserve. And if we wish to understand why the Arabs who once respected us now seem contemptuous of us, consider that battered-spouse response to a public slap across the face.

Consider also the most remarkable statement of Biden’s first 24 hours.

“Progress occurs in the Middle East when everyone knows there is simply no space between the United States and Israel.”

Biden is saying we are a more effective force for Mideast peace in a region where Arabs outnumber Israelis 50 to one if everyone knows we sing from the same song sheet as Israel and have no policy independent of Israel’s.

How can America be seen as an honest broker between Arabs and Israelis if there is “no space” between America and Israel?

Even with the closest ally in our history, Britain in World War II, there was space between Winston Churchill and FDR on where to invade — North Africa, Italy, France, the Balkans? — whether to beat Stalin to Berlin, Prague and Vienna, who should be supreme allied commander, even whether the British Empire should survive.

Israel keeps its own interests foremost in mind, and when these dictate actions inimical to U.S. interests, Israel acts unilaterally. David Ben-Gurion did not seek Dwight Eisenhower’s permission to attack Egypt in collusion with the French and British in 1956, enraging Ike.

Israel did not consult JFK on whether it could steal enriched uranium from the NUMEC plant in Pennsylvania for its atom bomb program.

Israel did not consult us on whether it could attack the USS Liberty in the Six-Day War, or suborn Jonathan Pollard to loot our security secrets, or transfer our weapons technology to China. They went ahead and did it, knowing the Americans would swallow hard and take it.

Ehud Olmert did not consult President-elect Obama on whether to launch a war on Gaza and kill 1,400 Palestinians. Nor did Netanyahu consult us before Mossad took down the Hamas minister in Dubai.

What Netanyahu and Yishai are telling Obama with their decision to keep building on occupied land is, “When it comes to East Jerusalem and the West Bank, we decide, not you.”

And if Netanyahu has jolted Joe and others out of their romantic reveries about Israel, good. At least now we no longer see as through a glass darkly.

Israeli and U.S. interests often run parallel, but they are not the same. Israel is concerned with a neighborhood. We are concerned with a world of 300 million Arabs and a billion Muslims. Our policies cannot be the same.

If they are, we will end up with all of Israel’s enemies, who are legion, and only Israel’s friends, who are few.

And if our policy and Israel’s are one and the same, the Arab perception will be what it is today — that America cannot stand up to Israel, even when her national interests command it.

Joe’s performance before he got the wet mitten across the face only underscored the point: The mighty superpower is a poodle of Israel.

Ex-Italian President Says 911 an Inside Job

An ex-president of Italy, Francesco Cossiga. has told the respected Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera that “the disastrous (911) attack was planned and realized by the American CIA and Mossad with the help of the Zionist world to put under accusation the Arabic Countries and to persuade the Western powers to intervene in Iraq and Afghanistan.”

This is truly outstanding news! This statement supports the suspicions of the 911 truth movement, which rejected the “official” 911 explanation from the government long ago. Most people –once they study the facts and details of the World Trade Center collapse– immediately become suspicious about the government account. Why did the World Trade Center 7 building collapse –even though it had NOT been hit by an airplane? How did a film crew of MOSSAD agents know in advance that the WTC buildings would be attacked? Why were there Israeli art students/spies in the same towns as the 911 hijackers? Why did our government set free these Israelis who obviously KNEW something important about 911 while we later filled up Guantanamo with Afghani goat herders, who knew as much about 911 as their goats?

The WTC towers survived the initial impact of the airliners that hit them. Most of the fuel burnt up in a huge fireball outside the buildings. After ten minutes all of the jet fuel should have burnt up according to fire experts. The remaining fire was nothing more than a paper and wood fire. The steel support structure of the World Trade Center would have been coated with a cement-like material that would provide hours of high-temperature fire protection.

Despite this, we are told that the fire was so intense that the steel in the building lost most of its strength and the building started to collapse. Steel does not melt until it reaches 3,000 degrees F. Steel does not begin to lose significant strength until it gets above 1,000 degrees F. The insulating material on the steel should have kept it well below this temperature for hours. Every civil engineer and architect KNOWS this information and there’s even a website where professionals voice their suspicions about the WTC collapse.

There were firemen at the 78th floor just before the collapse. One of them radioed down that the remaining fire could be put out with two fire hoses in a short amount of time. Most likely some sinister rogue elements in the MOSSAD and/or our government were monitoring the fire department radio channel, and someone pressed the button for a controlled demolition of the first tower to collapse. (It would be a little bit hard to explain how the building could collapse if the fire department put out the fire so the building was destroyed right then killing a large number of firefighters and police who were trying to rescue people.) A short time later the other tower was brought down also by a controlled demolition, and then the WTC 7 building was similarly destroyed.

A steel-reinforced skyscraper has never collapsed due to a fire. Even a bomber colliding with the Empire State Building during World War Two did not cause a collapse. There have been buildings that collapsed due to earthquakes, but these buildings collapsed non-symmetrically. The World Trade Center buildings (1,2 and 7) all collapsed into their own footprints like a perfect controlled demolition with only some minor scratches and a few broken windows in neighboring buildings.

One website skeptical of the official 911 story announces “Welcome to Architects & Engineers for 9/11 Truth! (We have) 230 architectural and engineering professionals and 582 other supporters including A/E students (who) have joined us in demanding of Congress a truly independent investigation.” There are dozens of suspicious circumstances surrounding the 911 event.

The more high-ranking political officials around the world who confirm that 911 was an “inside job” the better. Most people have suspicions about 911 and have heard some of the alternate theories about it.

Even the circumstances surrounding 911 are suspicious. How could the thoroughly incompetent George Bush regime stop terrorism from 2001 until the end of his second term if some outside force wanted to set off bombs in the US? Does anyone seriously believe that if al Qaeda were real that it would not have been able to sneak a terrorist across the Mexican border or fly one here on a student visa from Saudi Arabia and then set off a bomb in a mall?

Israel was caught setting up a phony al Qaeda cell in Palestine in 2001. Their MOSSAD could easily have recruited the 911 hijackers in Egypt and Saudi Arabia in similar phony al Qaeda cells.

The only way the highly inept Bush could have stopped terrorist would be if Bush (or Israel) were responsible for the terrorism in the first place.

JERUSALEM — Noted Israeli military historian Martin Karfeld stated that Israel could find itself one day forced to exterminate the European continent using all kinds of weapons including its nuclear arsenal if it felt its demise neared, stressing that Israel also considers Europe a hostile target.

This came in a press interview broadcast by the seventh Hebrew radio and was translated on Wednesday into Arabic by the press information analysis and study center.

“We have hundreds of nuclear warheads and missiles that can reach different targets in the heart of the European continent, including beyond the borders of Rome, the Italian capital,” Karfeld said, adding that most of the European capitals would become preferred targets for the Israeli air force.

Could destroy the whole world

The Israeli historian reiterated Israel’s ability to destroy the whole world whenever it felt its existence would be doomed to extinction. As for the Palestinians, the historian said that Israel at the present time pursues a specific strategy based on mass deportation of the Palestinian people and has intentions to expel all Palestinians without exception, but it is awaiting the right moment to take this step.

“Two years ago, there was only seven to eight percent of the Israelis believing in this solution towards the Palestinians and just two months ago this percentage rose amongst the Israelis to 33 percent, but today, according to a survey conducted by Gallup institute, this figure surged to 55 percent,” he noted.

Seeks new opportunity for massacre and mass expulsion The historian highlighted that Israel must take advantage of any incident that would give it a golden opportunity to expel the Palestinians as happened in Deir Yassin massacre in 1948.

America Going Bankrupt State by State

The next stage of the Obama Depression is beginning now–the financial collapse of individual states. USA Today reports: “Residents eager to get their state tax refunds may have a long wait this year: The recession has tied up cash and caused officials in half a dozen states to consider freezing refunds, in one case for as long as five months. States from New York to Hawaii that have been hard-hit by the economic downturn say they have either delayed refunds or are considering doing so because of budget shortfalls. New York, hit with a $9 billion deficit, may delay $500 million in refunds to keep the state from running out of cash, says Gov. David Paterson. Hawaii’s Department of Taxation says some residents may not see state income tax refunds until the end of August… Officials in the following states say they have had to delay issuing refunds or consider doing so because the state might not have the cash on hand to cover the checks: Hawaii, Alabama, North Carolina, Kansas, Idaho, New York.”

In 2009, California with its majority non-White population issued IOUs to vendors and employees. Some banks refused to accept these IOUs. One news article notes “California state lawmakers now grappling with a $40 billion budget deficit were advised five years ago of the mounting costs of illegal immigration in the state. In 2004, the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) issued a study of the fiscal cost of illegal immigration to Californians. At that time, the cost to the state’s taxpayers was $10.54 billion a year. That estimate included the cost of educating the children of illegal aliens both those illegally in the country and those born here in K-12 public schools, emergency medical care, and incarceration of criminal aliens. While these annual costs for illegal immigration have been steadily draining California’s budget year after year, the costs have risen and are placing an even greater strain on the state’s resources in 2009. The original 2004 cost estimate was based on an illegal alien population estimated at 2,900,000. Today, FAIR estimates California’s illegal alien population has grown to 3,200,000, a 10.3 percent increase. As a result of both the continued growth in the illegal alien population and the higher cost of governmental services, the current fiscal cost outlays for the illegal alien population in California are now approaching $13.1 billion annually more than half the projected shortfall for next year.”

A number of major American cities are also nearly bankrupt, including Obama’s home town of Chicago and the perpetual black-run basket case known as Detroit. The city authorities in Detroit have announced plans to shrink the size of the city by bulldozing large tracts of abandoned buildings and simply letting nature come back and take over, rather like what happened in White-built colonial cities in Africa when blacks took over and they more or less returned to the jungle.

We haven’t seen the worst of the Obama Depression, not by a long shot. Many of these bankrupt states and cities are going to be be forced to take the obvious step of cutting or abolishing the pensions for retired workers, leaving millions of people with just a few dollars per month, with much of their value inflated away by Obama’s runaway spending, leaving them with a cat food diet. White people need to wake up and take back America.

Jewish Attack Groups Threaten Tea Party

‘Jewish supremacists fear Tea Party patriots because they could vote out the Democrat majority at midterms and end easy victories for ADL’s pro-homosexual legislation’

Last November, the Anti-Defamation League vilified millions of anti-Obama and Tea Party protestors as “conspirators”—part of an unruly, violence-prone movement paranoid about government. The Southern Poverty Law Center, like the Anti-Defamation League, is a 100% Jewish “civil liberties” group dedicated to crushing any sign of Christian, conservative renewal. A year ago, these groups tried to convince Missouri state police to profile patriotic Americans as potential domestic terrorists. Now, SPLC has released a new Intelligence Report and video claiming that potentially violent militia and extremist groups are “cross-pollinating” the Tea Party.

The Tea Party is “shot through with rich veins of radical ideas, conspiracy theories and racism,” says SPLC editor Mark Potok. He claims current anti-government rage is “a tinderbox…much like the white-hot period just before [the bombing by Timothy McVeigh in] Oklahoma City.” He says “many in law enforcement are very worried that all it is going to take is some kind of spark to set this thing off.” (If a spark does ignite violence or terrorism, it may well be provided by these very Jewish groups who claim to oppose violence. America’s radical secular Jewish community has a long record of defacing their own synagogues, burning crosses, and covertly distributing “hate” literature to fabricate proof that hate and anti-Semitism are rampant in heartland America.)

SPLC’s report, “Rage on the Right,” is not as extensive or derisive of the Tea Party movement as ADL’s earlier “Rage Grows in America: Anti-Government Conspiracies.” But it is a cannonball across the bow of the explosively growing Tea Party movement. It warns leaders not to let the whole truth about international Zionist control and conspiracy take root, or these super powerful Jewish muscle groups will use their influence to inflame Jewish media, the Congress and law enforcement against them. ADL and SPLC want the Tea Party movement to obediently follow the Democrat and Republican parties down the garden path they blindly entered three-fourths of a century ago. They want the Tea Party to accept big Jewish money and advisement and promote Israel-first potential candidates, particularly Sarah Palin. As Israel’s attack dogs, ADL and SPLC specialize in keeping American conservatism in line. They are intent now on furthering a Tea Party platform that serves Israel and undermines America, favoring even more military intervention on behalf of Israel in the Mideast. Unfortunately, with 85 percent of Americans supporting Israel, their mission should be easily accomplished.

Unless lovers of the whole truth resist, leaders of the Tea Party from Glenn Beck down will cave to these powerful organizations and drive out original thought. Zionists can then co-opt the movement entirely.

At present, Jewish supremacists only fear Tea Party patriots because they could vote out the Democrat majority at midterms and end easy victories for ADL’s pro-homosexual legislation. But the Tea Party should aspire to make Jewish supremacists fear it for another reason: power to eventually forge a foreign policy that adamantly seeks American interests first. This policy would resist further enticement into war and loss of American lives to make the Mideast safe for Israel.

How can the Tea Party be rescued from inevitable Zionist takeover? Tea Party leaders and members must be educated. AIPAC of Raving Lunatics

Without regard for the severe economic devastation and loss of life that a war with Iran would create, Israel’s agents in the United States continue to aggressively stoke the fires of anti-Iranian rhetoric and mobilize their minions on the floor of the House. The Brzezinski-Soros machine failed in their attempt to effect regime change in Iran by way of a “color revolution” in the summer of 2009. This has only emboldened the Israeli lobby to pursue more drastic measures. There is only one card left for them to play before provoking conflicts that will most certainly catapult the United States into direct military action against the Islamic state.

Tuesday, the American Israeli Political Action Committee gave their marching orders to their congressional War Hawks. The message was short, concise and clear. Here is the text of the letter AIPAC sent to members of Congress:

Dear Congressman XXXX,

We are writing to every member of Congress to express outrage at the U.S. government’s continuing relationship with dozens of companies doing business with Iran. These ongoing financial dealings undermine longstanding American efforts to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapons capability.

As the New York Times reported on Sunday, the federal government during the past decade has awarded $107 billion in contracts and grants to more than 70 companies that are doing business in Iran. More than two-thirds of these contracts have gone to companies involved in Iran’s energy industry despite American law to discourage such involvement.

The time has long since passed this policy to change. Unfortunately, as the Times points out, three successive American administrations have failed to enforce the Iran Sanctions Act of 1996, which mandates U.S. sanctions on firms investing more than $20 million in Iran’s energy sector. While Presidents Clinton, Bush and Obama may have discouraged some investment in Iran through their rhetoric, the United States has sent the American and international business community a contradictory message by failing to enforce the law.

Despite publicly acknowledged investments by several companies of hundreds of millions of dollars in Iran’s energy sector, the U.S. Government has inexplicably failed to make even one determination of an investment of $20 million during the course of the past decade. Yet, throughout this entire time, Iran has pursued a nuclear weapons capability, flouting its international obligations under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and presenting the international community with a growing, and now urgent, threat.

As Iran continues to reject U.S.-European engagement efforts and to defy U.N. Security Council resolutions requiring that it halt its illicit uranium enrichment efforts, the United States must take action now.

We call on Congress to:

1. Investigate why successive administrations have failed to implement the law by failing to determine what companies have invested in the Iranian energy sector;

2. Enact—without delay—the Iran sanctions legislation currently before Congress, which, inter alia, contains provisions barring federal contracts to companies which are investing in Iran’s energy sector or providing sensitive technology, and their parents or subsidiaries who are engaged in such activity;

3. Demand that the U.S. Government enforce existing sanctions law and impose crippling new sanctions on Iran.

In addition to these actions, we hope you will join with us in urging the administration to impose tough new multilateral sanctions with like-minded states without delay while continuing to pursue the widest possible sanctions through the U.N. Security Council.

These are pretty strong words coming from an organization which has stood in defiance of U.S. law that requires them to register as agents of a foreign power. It proves once again that the “A” in AIPAC really should be removed from their acronym. There is nothing “American” about them. This is the Israeli lobby, plain and simple. They represent Israel first and last. The United States is nothing more than a host to their endless parasitism. This letter should be an insult to anyone familiar with the State of Israel and it’s long history of refusing to comply with International laws and treaties. It reeks of hypocrisy. It’s an exercise in contempt. There is no country on the face of this earth with less justification to level these charges or make such demands.

First of all, Iran has no nuclear weapons capability. As recently as February 11, 2010, Press Secretary Robert Gibbs responded to a claim by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad that Iran had produced the first stock of 20 percent enriched uranium. Gibbs said, “The Iranian nuclear program has undergone a series of problems throughout the year. We do not believe they have the capability to enrich to the degree to which they now say they are enriching.” The enriched uranium that Ahmadinejad was referring to was not for building a nuclear weapon but rather for medical isotopes used to treat cancer patients. And even if they did have the capability of enriching to 20 percent, it still falls far short of the nearly 98% that is required for building a weapon of mass destruction. As a signer of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, Iran has a legal right to enrich uranium in the manner that they are claiming. On the other hand, Israel has refused to sign the NNPT and has no right to make demands of anyone pertaining to nuclear technology.

While the author of this letter points out that “the federal government has awarded $107 billion in contracts and grants to more than 70 companies that are doing business in Iran,” it fails to recognize that 14 of those companies have already pulled out and that 11 plan no future investment. Of the 49 remaining, only 3 are suspected of being in violation of the “Iran Sanctions Act”. Those three companies are Daelim (South Korea), Dutch Royal Shell (Netherlands) and Total (France). Of the $174 million that Daelim received in contract money from the U.S., $111 million was used to build family housing towers for the U.S. Army. Dutch Royal Shell received $11.2 billion in contracts and that investment was instrumental in supplying a significant amount of gasoline to the U.S. military. Not one American company currently doing business and planning future investment in Iran is suspected of being in violation of the “Iran Sanctions Act”.

The author demands that Congress enact current legislation that bars companies from investing in Iran’s energy sector. But this is in direct conflict with Article IV of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Iran is a signer of that treaty, and that obligates the United States to help them build power plants and other facilities for non-military purposes.

If anyone should be barred from receiving federal contracts or aid it is the State of Israel, who has refused to sign the NNPT and have illegally pursued a nuclear weapons program of their own. The 1976 Symington Amendment to the Foreign Appropriations Bill of 1961 forbids the United States from giving foreign aid to any nation that is developing nuclear technology outside the NNPT. Despite this, approximately 1/3 of the total foreign aid budget of the United States is annually sent to Israel even though they comprise less than .001 of the world’s population and has one of the world’s highest per capita incomes. Former Congressman James Traficant rightly pointed out recently that between the direct foreign aid grants to Israel, along with all of the other benefits including trade compacts, economic and military assistance, “Israel gets approximately $15 billion a year from the American taxpayers. That $15 billion is $30,000 for every man, woman and child in Israel.”

In his list of demands, the author urges Congress to “pursue the widest possible sanctions through the U.N. Security Council.” This is the height of hypocrisy. Neither the State of Israel nor its agents have any standing with the United Nations in this regard. Since its inception, the State of Israel has been in violation of more UN resolutions than any other nation on earth.

Who else but a raving lunatic would even dare to write such a letter in light of the insurmountable evidence that contradicts each and every line of their text? There is no other explanation; a lunatic wrote this letter. And if Congress acts in lock step to their demands, then it should be abundantly clear to all of us that the lunatics, have indeed, taken over the asylum.

Some people may have noticed that mailboxes, which had been in their neighborhoods literally for decades have recently disappeared. Well, it turns out that any mailbox that gets less than 25 pieces of mail per week is in danger of being uprooted.

It’s true people under age 70 overwhelmingly use e-mail for everything, and that people are likely paying their bills online or by some automatic deductions. This means a big drop in mail, but it seems silly to take away mailboxes. Why not just collect mail from them less often? This move seems to be a largely symbolic act by the Feds. Our government isn’t able to repaint a white line on a road without spending thousand of dollars. I would not be surprised one bit if it cost thousands of dollars in labor and bureaucracy to remove each mailbox.

A Reuters article reports “The U.S. Postal Service said on Friday it is closing six of its 80 district offices. In addition, administrative staff positions at district level nationwide are being reduced by 15 percent and nearly 150,000 employees nationwide being given opportunity to take an early retirement. More than 1,400 mail processing supervisor and management positions are also being eliminated.”

Early retirement usually means significantly less pension in most jobs. It also means 150,000 less postal workers, so the long lines at the post office will get even worse.

But far more interesting are the political and financial implications of this little article. At a time when Obama and his Jewish handlers are running the presses creating more and more paper money (along with rampant inflation) and borrowing up to their fetlocks from the Communist Chinese, of all people, and at a time when they are hurling billions of dollars at a time at every bank and every Democrat pork project under the sun, actual human beings are being kicked off the federal payroll.

Now, this is almost a 180-degree contradiction to normal liberal and Democrat principles, which dictate hire, hire, hire, (especially women and minorities) and grow government to gigantic proportions so that they get that many more voters and their families committed to them. Democrats buy their loyalty. A good example is the ghastly National Education Association (NEA), the nationwide teachers’ union that in many places makes direct deductions from teachers’ salaries for the union which exclusively supports Democrats and who are largely credited with forming the ground troops who twice inflicted the unspeakable Clintons on this country.

So why are the Democrats spending hundreds of billions of dollars in an effort to “stimulate” the economy while cutting the existing federal workforce? It used to be you had to be caught committing an unnatural act with a llama in the city zoo in order to be fired from the Post Office, and even then the pervert might still keep his job. Now they’re dumping 150,000 postal workers?

No, really, why are they doing this? The cost of these people’s salaries is tiny compared to the 787 billion dollar “stimulus” plan and the multi-trillion-dollar budget. What’s going on here? Simple incompetence? If the Feds want to create jobs for people why not start with KEEPING the existing jobs? I suspect we’ll see a lot more bizarre confusing moves in the near future because –despite all the hype– Obama really isn’t that bright and he’s never run anything before. He’s just another Democrat politician from the most corrupt political machine in the world (Chicago). We expect to see patronage and corruption, but maybe we should expect to see blundering and and mismanagement too.

As one European free speech martyr, Ernst Zundel, is released from prison, another one takes his place in the EU gulag. A Spanish court has sentenced Barcelona bookshop owner Pedro Varela to two years and nine months in prison for “spreading racist propaganda.” The court ruled that Varela spread ideas “favorable to genocide.” In fact none of the books Varela sold were favorable in any way to genocide. Varela has always condemned all human rights violations against peoples. He was charged with “racism” for simply selling a book in his bookstore by a leading British scientist on racial differences. A book which advocated no repression or harm against anyone. He was also ordered to pay a fine of 2,880 euros (3,945 dollars). Prosecutors had asked for a four-year prison sentence.

The court rejected Varela’s defense that he belonged to no political party and that there were no banned books in Spain. During the trial, Varela said “I am not saying there was not persecution of the Jews, and I have always condemned forcefully any persecution that existed, but there should be traditional academic investigation, criticism and challenge on historical events.” Brief English summary from EarthTimes; Spanish-language media reports from El Pais and EFE. So, they seek to throw him in prison not for denying crimes against Jews in the Second World War but for simply selling books in his shop that historically argue numbers of which there is considerable dispute even among mainstream Jewish researchers.

This represents Pedro Varela’s third time through the Spanish justice system over free speech issues. In 2006, Varela was arrested on Holocaust denial and justification of genocide charges, convicted on the justification charge, and sentenced to seven months in prison after a 2008 trial, but avoided incarceration at the time because he lacked a prior criminal record. Previously, on November 16th, 1998, a Barcelona criminal court found Varela guilty of inciting racial hatred and of denying or justifying genocide, and sentenced him to five years imprisonment and a fine of 720,000 pesetas (about $5,000). The conviction was suspended by the Catalonia Provincial Court on April 30th, 1999 when the three judges of the Audencia court in Barcelona unanimously declared that the law under which he had been convicted may have violated Article 20 of the Spanish Constitution, which guarantees the rights of free speech and free expression of opinion.

Ultimately, a Constitutional Tribunal sided with the provincial court, deciding in 2007 to decriminalise a presumption that was included in the reform of the Penal Code of 1996. Article 607.2 anticipates punishments of up to two years in jail for whoever, “by any means” diffuses “ideas or doctrines that deny or justify” the Holocaust. The Tribunal found that this clause limited a fundamental right, the right to freedom of expression, since it punished the diffusion of ideas “without demanding any other element, such as affronts, or inciting to attack groups.”

In 2007, Pedro Varela published Dr. David Duke’s Spanish-language translation of his book, “Jewish Supremacism”. The two launched a joint book tour for Dr. Duke. The November 2007 Spanish news video embedded below shows one of the joint appearances of Dr. Duke and Pedro Varela — and also shows Spanish Marxists staging a riot in protest. Ironically, a nonviolent man who has harmed no one is facing almost three years in prison while communist terrorists who rioted, burned property, who physically harmed police and bystanders, who sought bodily harm against other humans simply because of their viewpoint — were let off with only a slap on the wrist!

U.S. Can’t Afford Military Aid to Israel

In his recent State of the Union address, President Obama pledged to “go through the budget line by line to eliminate programs that we can’t afford and don’t work.” One week later, he sent his FY2011 budget request to Congress, which included a record-breaking $3 billion in military aid to Israel.

This requested increase in U.S. weapons to Israel — part of a ten-year $30 billion agreement signed between the two countries in 2007 — qualifies on both counts as a program that the United States can’t afford and that doesn’t work in establishing a just and lasting peace between Israelis and Palestinians.

Data published recently by the US Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation shows that U.S. military aid to Israel comes at a financial and moral price that this country cannot afford to pay. Its website reveals that this same $3 billion earmark for Israel could be used instead to provide more than 364,000 low-income households with affordable housing vouchers, or to retrain 498,000 workers for green jobs, or to provide early reading programs to 887,000 at-risk students, or to provide access to primary health care services for more than 24 million uninsured Americans.

If U.S. weapons were going to Israel for a good purpose, then perhaps a coherent guns versus butter debate would be appropriate. However, Israel repeatedly misuses U.S. weapons to commit grave human rights abuses against Palestinians who are forced to live under its illegal 42-year military occupation of the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Gaza Strip.

During the Bush Administration, Israel killed at least 3,107 innocent Palestinian civilians, according to the Israeli human rights organization B’Tselem. Israel also injured thousands more innocent Palestinians and destroyed billions of dollars of Palestinian civilian infrastructure including homes, schools, factories, government buildings, and even Palestine’s only airport. The severity and scale of this killing and destruction were made possible by hi-tech U.S. weapons provided to Israel at taxpayer expense.

And during Obama’s first year in office, Israel continued to misuse its stock of U.S. weapons to entrench its apartheid policies toward Palestinians by maintaining its illegal blockade of the Gaza Strip — collectively punishing its 1.5 million Palestinian residents by severely restricting the flow of humanitarian relief — and building illegal Israeli-only colonies on stolen Palestinian land in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

It was exactly to prevent this kind of misuse of U.S. weapons that Congress passed the Arms Export Control Act, which strictly limits foreign countries from employing U.S. weapons for any purpose other than “internal security” or “legitimate self-defense.” Building apartheid walls and colonies to maintain a foreign military occupation, enforcing a medieval blockade, and killing and injuring innocent civilians by the thousands certainly cannot be considered legitimate and is self-evidently not for domestic security.

Yet despite this clear misuse of U.S. weapons by Israel — most evident recently during its December 2008-January 2009 attack on the Gaza Strip which killed more than 1,300 Palestinians in just three weeks — both Congress and the Obama Administration have failed miserably to hold Israel accountable for its violations of the Arms Export Control Act and cut off weapons flows to it as required by the law.

A few lonely voices on Capitol Hill — such as Rep. Brian Baird, Rep. Keith Ellison, and Rep. Dennis Kucinich — have spoken up bravely and truthfully about the consequences of U.S. weapons transferred to Israel, which a 2009 Amnesty International report cited as literally “fuelling” the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Unfortunately, President Obama has paid no heed to these Members of Congress. When questioned at a recent town hall meeting in Tampa about the impact of U.S. military aid to Israel on Palestinian civilians, the normally articulate Obama appeared visibly flummoxed before sputtering, “Look, look, look, the Middle East is obviously an issue that has plagued the region for centuries.” He then proceeded to duck the question with platitudes about peace.

The President’s non-response to the question demonstrates that politicians prefer to turn a blind eye to the obvious incompatibility of trying to promote Israeli-Palestinian peace while giving Israel the weapons it needs to maintain its illegal occupation of Palestinian lands.

Before Congress gets to work on the President’s budget request and considers transferring an additional $3 billion in weapons to Israel, it is long past overdue for the United States to reconsider whether we can afford this policy any longer.
