Europe’s Newest Free Speech Martyr: Barcelona Librarian Pedro Varela

As one European free speech martyr, Ernst Zundel, is released from prison, another one takes his place in the EU gulag. A Spanish court has sentenced Barcelona bookshop owner Pedro Varela to two years and nine months in prison for “spreading racist propaganda.” The court ruled that Varela spread ideas “favorable to genocide.” In fact none of the books Varela sold were favorable in any way to genocide. Varela has always condemned all human rights violations against peoples. He was charged with “racism” for simply selling a book in his bookstore by a leading British scientist on racial differences. A book which advocated no repression or harm against anyone. He was also ordered to pay a fine of 2,880 euros (3,945 dollars). Prosecutors had asked for a four-year prison sentence.

The court rejected Varela’s defense that he belonged to no political party and that there were no banned books in Spain. During the trial, Varela said “I am not saying there was not persecution of the Jews, and I have always condemned forcefully any persecution that existed, but there should be traditional academic investigation, criticism and challenge on historical events.” Brief English summary from EarthTimes; Spanish-language media reports from El Pais and EFE. So, they seek to throw him in prison not for denying crimes against Jews in the Second World War but for simply selling books in his shop that historically argue numbers of which there is considerable dispute even among mainstream Jewish researchers. Slave Trafficking in the Twentieth Century

The Morgenthau Plan of 1944 provided for the use of German prisoners of war as forced labor in those countries that had been at war with the Reich after it was beaten. This plan was carried out with cool brutality from the first day on which hostilities ceased.

It has not been possible to conduct a full and thorough investigation on the number of POWs held as forced laborers at the end of hostilities, given the Soviet refusal [as of 1982 when this book was published – Ed.] to provide data in this regard. Nor have the Western Allies (the English and the French in particular) wanted to provide information on the subject. Nevertheless, it has been possible to obtain some very significant data, which we will expose here.

According to the British Chambers Encyclopedia, under the heading “Slave Labor,” it is estimated that by the end of the war the Russians used as forced laborers around five million German soldiers, prisoners of war, and about three quarters of a million imprisoned soldiers of other nationalities: mostly Romanians and Italians, but also Hungarians, Slovaks, Bulgarians and Finns. Very little has ever been heard of these slaves. [Henrik Holappa, told me his own maternal grandfather was a Soviet slave laborer, and never recovered mentally from the ordeal. He died at 51 in 1965.]

Descending to particulars, and according to data from an obsessively anti-Nazi West German magazine, Stern [footnote1], the Soviets captured about a hundred thousand German soldiers at Stalingrad. Only six thousand of them returned home toward the end of 1950 – i.e., they had remained in a state of slavery for five years, and during peacetime.

The other ninety-four thousand died as a result of a treatment unworthy even of slaves that they had received. And if we return to the general case of the five million Germans and 750,000 Europeans of other nationalities kept by the Soviets as slaves, the contributors to the Encyclopedia Chambers agree that it is very difficult to figure with any semblance of certainty how many perished in slavery, because it is not possible to prove, in legal terms, that the Russian claim is a clumsy lie that many prisoners, at the end of their captivity, preferred to stay in the Soviet Union. The Siege of the Alcazar

July 20th – September 27th, 1936

In July of 1936, the people of Spain revolted against their tyrannical and murderous Communist government. The uprising was led by General Francisco Franco and had the support of most (although not all) of the Spanish military, the Catholic Church, the middle classes, and a very large section of normal working class people as well. The popular left-wing myth that the Spanish Civil War was nothing more than a “military coup” is unfounded; the fact that Franco was able to establish a stable and relatively prosperous society that lasted for over thirty years belies this.

When it became apparent that the initial rising in Madrid had failed, the Nationalist supporters in Toledo, which is 40 miles to the southwest of the capital, declared for Franco and occupied the military academy in the ancient Alcazar fortress. The garrison was mainly drawn from the local Guardia Civil and Falange, but also included about a hundred teenaged military cadets, a large number of women and children as well as nuns and priests who had fled to the fort for safety from the marauding Communist militia and the Asaltos or Assault Guards, who were the Republic’s paramilitary goon squads. This motley crew of resistance fighters was led by the Commandant of the Academy, Colonel Jose Moscardo.

At that time Toledo was a Nationalist island surrounded by Republican-held territory, and it was psychologically as well as strategically vital that the Red government in Madrid recover the fortress as soon as possible. They despatched a large force of militia, Asaltos, army troops who remained loyal to the government, “international brigades” and Soviet “advisors” as well as the dreaded POUM anarchist paramilitary gangs, to capture the Alcazar. Within days, the ancient castle was surrounded by hastily-built barricades and besieged with sniper and machine-gun fire. (more…)

In MEDIEVAL Spain the Jews came nearer to building a New Jerusalem than at any time or place since their dispersion after the Crucifixion. Had they succeeded ‑- and several times they came perilously near success ‑- they might conceivably have managed, with Mohammedan aid, to destroy the Christian civilization of Europe. Their ultimate failure was caused chiefly by the life‑work of Isabel.

The date of their first migrations to the peninsula is disputed; but the evidence appears to indicate that they arrived not long after Saint James the Greater first preached the gospel of Christianity in Saragossa in A.D. 42. Some of those expelled from Rome by Claudius may have settled in Spain. Certain it is that they spread through the country very early in the Christian era, and multiplied so rapidly that their presence constituted a serious problem for the Arian (unorthodox Christian) Visigoths. They were not at first persecuted by the Christians; but, after the discovery that they were plotting to bring the Arabs from Africa for the overthrow of the Gothic kingdom, they were condemned to slavery by one of the councils of Toledo.

Nevertheless by the beginning of the eighth century they were numerous in all the chief cities, enjoyed power and wealth, and even obtained through bribery certain privileges denied to Christians. (more…)

Dr. David Duke besides being a PhD,  historian, former member of the House of Representatives  from Louisiana, former presidential candidate for USA , and despite his receiving the 60% of the euro descendant population votes in Louisiana with his opposition controlling the mass media and having ten times political funding – David Duke, this is also true, when he was 19, he joined Ku Klux Klan… now he is 57. But, the only thing that matters to the controlled international mass media, and also the national ones, is the fact David Duke was once a member of the Ku Klux Klan. Yet every day the media reports on major Spanish politicians who in their youth were communists, Phalangist, or even real terrorists, but they are introduced as “Member of Parliament.” Almost no articles even have the slightest mention of his controversial past. David Duke: “I am not a White supremacist”

EFE – Dr. David Duke the historian and ex-American congressman of Louisiana has assured the public that he is not a ‘White Supremacist’, that he defends the right of freedom of expression and has assured that his presence in Spain does not mean he is against any person. Dr. Duke has made these statements at a hotel in Madrid while displaying his newly translated book titled “Supremacismo Judíó”, published by Ojeda Editions, while on book tour in several Spanish provinces.

Dr. Duke clarified that when he speaks of ‘Supremacismo Judíó’ he does not talk about all Jews, but about the Jewish extremists who try to impose their supremacy on others. “No town or nation should conform to any another one; every nation has the right to be independent and to preserve its heritage and artistic expressions that they consider valuable” he said. Dr. Duke then assured that he is not against any person here, but that he is for remembering that Spanish people have the right to continue their existence, and to fight for their identity, basic Human Rights and Liberty.

After Dr. Duke emphasized his intention of not fomenting hatred towards anybody and explained that he has friends in both European and Muslim cultures, he said he thought that Europe is in the middle of a ‘crisis’ and he talked about the destruction of the inheritance of a culture. He then criticized the performance of the government in the matter of immigration and said that if massive immigration continues Spain will be lost as will Europe, the United States along with all the distinct peoples on the planet.

Dr. Duke also expressed his opposition to the American invasion of Iraq, to the maintenance of U.S. military bases in 130 different countries around the globe and expressed his opposition to globalización which will annihilate all people’s roots and identities. “We have the right to live”, summarized the author. Spain Abolishes Thought Crime Law – Withdraws from Germany’s Holocaust Persecution Alliance

Freedom of Expression cannot be denied even to the Nazis

The first sentence given in Spain for the crime of genocide apology will also be the last. Moreover, it will be revoked. The Constitutional Tribunal decided yesterday to decriminalise a presumption that was included in the reform of the Penal Code of 1996. Article 607.2 anticipates punishments of up to two years in jail for whoever, “by any means” diffuses “ideas or doctrines that deny or justify” the Holocaust.

With that legislation, a Barcelona court [Juzgado Penal Nº 3, Judge Santiago Vidal] sentenced a librarian [Pedro Varela] in this city in 1998 who distributed and commercialised pro Nazi books and videos. Against the prosecution’s criteria, the Catalonian Court of Appeal [Audiencia Provincial, three judges] posed the question of unconstitutionality, when considering that the referenced article limits a fundamental right, the right to freedom of expression, since it punishes the diffusion of ideas “without demanding any other element, such as affronts, or inciting to attack groups.”

We are, undoubtedly, before a correct decision of the Constitutional Court that reinforces our system of guarantees. Because, no matter how odious the ideas that justify genocide may appear to us, a free society cannot deny their right of freedom of expression, unless it includes inciting to violence. The opposite would be to reinstate the crime of opinion.

News Flash — Pedro Varela Arrested in Spain

Notice the picture of the arrest of my good friend, Spanish patriot Pedro Varela. Who more resembles a criminal or terrorist, Pedro Varela or the Secret Police arresting him? And what was Pedro’s crime? Publishing books with a revisionist view of the Second World War and critical of Zionist policies in Israel and elsewhere. What were the dangerous items confiscated by the police? Books. In essence, he is being arrested for expressing opinion and/or enabling others to publish their opinion in a non-violent, intelligent fashion. What are the powerful weapons for which they want to lock him in jail? Ideas.

Ladies and Gentlemen, where is the international protest against this violation of the most basic of human rights? Where is Amnesty International, and for that matter where is George Bush and all his talk about freedom and right to people to free speech and expression? Isn’t that now the supposed motivation of the Iraq War , freedom!

Why must the Jewish supremacists seek such suppression and draconian tactics? Could it be that they have no answer to Pedro Varela’s elegant arguments and reason and thus must try to intimidate, harm and hurt this well spoken philosopher and writer? What you see in the photo is the real picture of terrorism, the state kidnapping and imprisoning a citizen for daring to publish politically incorrect books. Thought police rounding up books as you would see in some science fiction novel or in artistic renditions of totalitarian states.

Make no mistake about it my friends in America and across the world. We are in a worldwide battle for freedom. Our enemies don’t any longer even pretend to believe in free speech when it comes to those who challenge their power. And that power now leads directly to the human and worldwide catastrophe of the Iran War!

Hello, Mr. Duke. I write you from Spain and I am 26 years old.

First of all, I want to sorry because I don’t write the English language very well but I’ll make an effort in order to you could understand what I want to say.

I discovered your web site a few months ago and I like it very much. Despite of I don’t talk English, I understand it quite well, and I have learned a lot of things from your broadcasts and your articles. I heard your conference in Barcelona by Internet and I heard your conversation with Pedro Varela in which you talked about Spanish history and the role of the Jews in that history.

Well, I want to talk with you about the actual problems that we Spaniards are facing today and the main problem is immigration. We have suffered a brutal invasion of non European immigrants. Six years ago, the spanish population were 40 millions, mostly Europeans. Now we are more than 44 millions. We have received more than 4 millions of immigrants in the last six years. That is the tenth per cent of the population. Imagine what that means. (more…)

I hosted the first conference last year partly because I’ve seen, for so many years, so much disunity among “right wing” and European-American organizations — even infighting. I came to believe that we needed to present more of a common front to the enemy. Communists Leave Bookshop in Shambles

David Duke, a leading European rights activist, was attacked in Barcelona, Spain yesterday by a violent group of Communists while giving a speech at a Nationalist bookstore.

The speech, organized by Spanish patriot Pedro Varela (pictured), was completed in spite of the fact that Communists attacked inside the bookstore, which left a number of courageous nationalists injured.

It is reported that 40 – 50 Communists, whose group affiliation is unknown, attacked attendees of the Duke speech, but were met with a brave defense by nationalists. (more…)
